Billing and Insurance

Financial Assistance

Medical bills can be overwhelming, but there are options that can help. Help may be available to prevent or resolve medical debt, whether you have insurance or not.  Watch the video or explore the options below to learn about things that may help you pay for medical debt.

Insurance Options

If you are uninsured, you may be able to apply for insurance.  Humbolt Park Health accepts these insurance plans. Here are options to consider.

Employer-Sponsored Insurance

If you or your spouse are employed, you may be eligible for benefits provided through your employer(s).  Contact the employer to learn more about your options and whether you qualify for coverage.

COBRA

If you recently left your job, had a reduction in hours, were divorced, or were widowed and had health insurance coverage, you may be able to continue receiving coverage. Your employer must notify the insurance company of your eligibility within 30 days of the qualifying event. From here, they have an additional 14 days to alert you of your eligibility and inform you about your insurance options. Once you have been informed, you have a 60 day window to enroll. If you have more questions about how to enroll, reach out to the employer's Human Resources department and ask for the COBRA administrator.  How To Get COBRA Insurance | Application & Enrollment

Medicare

If you are age 65 or older, have certain disabilities, or end-stage renal disease (ESRD), you may be eligible for Medicare. Medicare Part A may help pay for hospital stays or care in a skilled nursing facility. Medicare Part B may help pay for certain doctor’s visits, outpatient care, supplies, and preventive care. In addition, Medicare Advantage programs may be available to add additional coverage.

Health Insurance Marketplace

You can apply for healthcare market insurance coverage if you have certain life events or income, or you qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). https://www.healthcare.gov/

Tricare

If you or a family member are an active member of the U.S. Armed Forces, a military retiree, or a member of the Reserve Component, you may qualify for coverage through Tricare. For more information, visit https://www.tricare.mil/.

Workers’ Compensation

If you became sick or injured at work, your employer’s workers’ compensation coverage may help pay your medical bills.  For more information, contact your employer.

Auto Insurance

If you were injured in a car accident, auto liability insurance or personal injury protection policies may help cover your medical costs.  If another driver caused the accident, their liability insurance might help cover your medical costs.  You can get more information by contacting the auto liability insurance company.  Additionally, if your own auto insurance policy includes personal injury protection, you may be able to get additional help paying your medical bills.  For more information, contact your auto insurance company.

Homeowner’s Insurance

Homeowners’ insurance does not cover medical costs of the homeowner or anyone who lives inside the home.  However, if you were injured while visiting another person’s home, their homeowner’s liability and medical payments coverage may help pay for some medical costs.

Violent Crime Compensation

Finally, if your medical costs are the result of a violent crime, there may be victim compensation programs which can provide financial help. [INSERT state-specific/client-specific information here]
